Ben HQ
KeymasterFor newcomers to Evony: The King’s Return, joining an alliance is the single most important step in the early game. A reliable alliance helps you avoid common early mistakes, grow faster, and is often the reason many players end up genuinely loving this game.
I. What Joining an Alliance Gets You
1. Boss rewards with zero risk, high-tier loot included
Can’t beat a boss on your own? Send a single troop, such as one siege vehicle or cavalry unit, to join a rally started by another alliance member. You take no combat damage but still receive a share of the drops. This is the most efficient way for new players to stockpile early resources and gear.
2. Alliance Help cuts build and research times significantly
When upgrading buildings, crafting equipment, researching tech, or healing wounded troops, tap the “Help” icon. Alliance members can shave time off your wait, and over the long run this saves a large amount of speed-up items.
3. Alliance buildings provide extra bonuses
R4 and R5 officers can construct and upgrade Alliance buildings, including the Alliance City, Alliance Warehouse, Alliance Farm, Alliance Sawmill, Alliance Quarry, and Alliance Iron Mine.
Prioritize building the Alliance City first. It marks out alliance territory, and any castle located within that territory gets extra bonuses, including resource protection, higher resource production, and faster gathering speed. The higher the Alliance City’s level, the stronger these bonuses become. Participating in Sunrise events also gives you a chance to win alliance castles, which provide additional bonus effects.
4. Alliance Tech benefits everyone
Members donate resources to fund Alliance Tech research. The higher the tech level, the more stat bonuses every alliance member receives.
5. Alliance Shop
Use Alliance Points to redeem resources and items in the shop. You can earn Alliance Points for free through donations or by defeating monsters. Event ranking rewards are the fastest way to accumulate points, so active event participation pays off.
6. Alliance events unlock additional rewards
Certain events, such as Alliance Mobilization, Zombie Invasion, Alliance Boss, Grand Heist, and Battlefield campaigns, require alliance membership to join. Without an alliance, you cannot participate or earn these rewards. Some events also have separate alliance ranking rewards, meaning members can earn both an individual rank reward and an alliance rank reward.
7. Reinforcements when you’re under attack
When enemies target newer players, stronger alliance members may send troops to reinforce your main city, helping reduce losses when defending against an attack.
II. How to Pick a Reliable Alliance
- Check the rankings: Open the leaderboard and look at the Alliance Power ranking. Prioritize active alliances within the top five.
- Follow strong players: Check the Monarch Power ranking to find alliances led by powerful players who regularly organize large-scale boss rallies.
- Check language tags: Look for flag icons or language notes in the alliance name or description, and choose one that matches your own language for easier communication.
III. Tips for Applying
- Change your default name: Replace the system-generated username with a custom nickname. It makes you look like an active player and improves your acceptance rate.
- Include a short application message: Don’t submit a blank application. A simple line like “New player, hoping to grow steadily and contribute to the alliance” goes a long way toward getting accepted.
IV. What to Do After Joining
- Say hello: Post a brief greeting in alliance chat, such as “Hi everyone, looking forward to working together.” It signals to the alliance that you’re an active member.
- Use Help and rallies: Tap “Help” whenever available to cut down build and research times, and send troops to monster rallies to collect rewards (see above for details).
V. How to Judge Alliance Quality, and the Rules for Leaving
- Signs of a good alliance: An active chat channel, frequent use of the “Help” feature among members, boss rallies happening around the clock, and R4/R5 officers who respond promptly.
- Leaving an alliance: the difference matters
- Leaving voluntarily: If the alliance is active and healthy, leaving on your own triggers a cooldown period before you can join a new one. However, if the R5 has been offline for an extended period and the alliance is no longer active, an “Inactive Alliance” notice will appear. Leaving voluntarily after that notice appears skips the cooldown.
- Being removed by the alliance: No cooldown applies. If you find your current alliance inactive, you can ask an R4 or R5 officer to remove you, allowing you to join a new alliance immediately.
A Player’s Perspective
One player shared their own take: “I personally prefer smaller, more active alliances. Bigger alliances tend to come with more friction and disputes, and I just want to enjoy the game and contribute where I can.” There’s no single “best” alliance. What matters is finding one that fits your own pace and playstyle.
Evony’s ability to retain both new and longtime players after nearly a decade of operation owes a great deal to the strong social dynamics its alliance system creates. For many players, logging in each day is really about chatting and fighting alongside alliance friends, a connection that for some even extends into real-life meetups. Choosing the right alliance gets you more than resources and bonuses. It gets you a group of comrades to build an empire with.
