Princess Kaguya, a character from The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter written in the 10th century, is a princess from the Moon. One day, an old bamboo cutter discovers her in a shining stalk of bamboo. The old man and his wife decide to raise the mysterious girl as their own daughter. She soon grows into a woman of extraordinary beauty, attracting many suitors. To refuse their proposals, she devises five impossible tasks. On a full moon night, she will return to the land, and a special individual will receive her Celestial Clothing Box.
